It's with great sadness that we have lost Albert Edward Lewis, Jr, 81, of Ormond Beach, who went to be in the arms of Jesus on August 3, 2015, A Daytona Beach native and life long resident, Mr. Lewis was a graduate of the 1952 class of Mainland High School. He was the owner/operator of the Kingston Camera Store for over 42 years before retiring. In his younger years, he served in the National Guard, 148th Artillery based in Daytona. Albert was a devoted member of the board of directors for the Salvation Army for many years and a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. He loved music, composing and playing many instruments. He was the founder and director of the Daytona Beach Concert Band, which continues today. His other interests included photography and gardening. In lieu of other remembrances the family suggests donations be made to either the COPD Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association . Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara Jean; 3 daughters, Vivian Boone (Tim), Orlando, FL, Melinda Timmons (John), Elton, VA and Judy Marstaller (Bob), Ormond Beach; 9 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Condolences may be shared at www.dalewoodwardfuneralhomes.com.
Ed was such an unbelievable support of the Daytona Beach Concert Band. We were so glad to be able to play for him earlier in 2015 where he conducted the band one last time. Ed...we will all be thinking of you.
We received the following lovely compliment from one of the concert goers:
"I just wanted to express my heartfelt thanks for enriching my holiday season with your concert. I was totally delighted at the informal but professional demeanor of the band, and I absolutely loved the music. It is so heartening to see something so multi-generational and obviously a team effort that is so much enjoyed by the members - - - and that transmitted itself to the audience. I smiled throughout and my developmentally delayed adult daughter, who attended with me, said it was the "best part of the season so far." Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!"
Welcome to our new website and we hope you will come back often. We are looking for new band members. If you are looking for fun, a great group of music lovers, and some opportunities to play around town then we are the band for you!
Periodically we will post to the Blog and also post on facebook. As we were looking for some fun images we came across this blog on the history of brass bands. There are some great photos and really interesting trivia! Check it out.
